Summer 2001 Nativity newsletter)
As many of you now know, the Vestry
decided to do away with the position of Parish Administrator as of August 31. The
situation came up because the church's income has not met expectations and cutbacks need
to be made. There is no longer enough money to cover the operating budget. Several of the
church's major supporters have moved from the area. In addition, our anticipated growth
has not taken place.
Deb
Teahan probably said it best when she commented, "We need a Parish Administrator, but
we can't afford one." Anna Haeffner opined that more people would have to help
voluntarily and pointed to Assistant Treasurer Russ Housel and how many hours he spends a
week without any pay.
Senior
Warden Judi McCullough agreed and said it would be up to the Vestry members to take on
some of the jobs that Parish Administrator does.
Dick
Wernick and Jim Murphy (the elder) have taken on the lawn maintenance chore. The church is
no longer paying a lawn service.
Deacon
Jan mentioned several projects that she is working on including a hurricane disaster plan,
a bulletin redesign, a building dedication bulletin, a visitors package and a newcomer
luncheon. she also announced that the next Alpha course would be January 8 through March
28.
Kraft
Construction Company has sent a bill for $65,000 but First Union will not pay it from our
building account because the bank does not have the building permits yet.
Judi
talked about her Pastoral Care Committe and named the members and their responsibilities.
Janet smith will work with the Saturday evening service, Liz Cramer will represent the
8:30 service, and Carole Harris will serve the 10:30 service.
"My
vision is that the whole church will be looking after each other," Judi said.
Judi
also suggested that the Vestry not meet in July, but that the triads get together to
discuss various projects. But Anna and Raymond Kow said that the members needed a regular
meeting instead of a triad. Besides none of the triads had met in the last month.
Therefore, the next Vestry meeting will be July 9.
Members
discussed advertising in such areas as newspapers, direct mail and inserts, but did not
reach any conclusions.
