Gary Bradshaw and Jo Davidsmeyer
were chosen as delegates to the next Diocesan Convention that will be in Punta Gorda on
October 13. Judi McCullough was named as an
alternate.
Assistant
treasurer Russ Housel reported that receipts
from the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper were $270. This does not include the bills. He also
went over some changes to the budget, the Memory Garden account and the Building Fund.
Russ also mentioned that some members had not pledged yet. Fr. Gerry Bennett added that when people gave
only $1 or $2, they folded the bills very tightly when they put them in the offering
plate. But when it was $20 or $50, they just threw it out, like a neon light.
he said.
Deacon Jan Brown reported that a Nursing Home Ministry had started and that
people would be going in pairs to visit specific persons.
Judi McCullough told the vestry that she was working on a follow-up plan that
would contact permanent members who had not been attending to determine why they
werent coming to church.
She also said that some people were complaining about our communion process. Father
Gerry pointed out that some people think that they should not cross in front of the altar,
which, of course, they can.
Ros Hall, who is in charge of ushers and greeters, will see if there can be
four people instead of two directing the communicants to the rail.
Judi also said that people had requested that the vestry
members be listed in the bulletin and Deacon Jan replied that a new format for the
bulletin was in progress.
Father Jim Murphy announced that since he had incurred added expenses from his
dental and knee problems, he was going to shorten his sabbatical. In addition, he did not
want to be gone too long while Nativity was in the midst of a major building project.
His sabbatical will run from June 4 to July 30 and he may spend part of the time at
the Kanauga Conference Center near Hendersonville, NC.
At the
February vestry meeting, Father Jim had suggested that the members form triads and meet
monthly to discuss common problems and possible solutions. Unfortunately, none of the
three triads had met.
A lot of things will need to be taken care of soon. he told the vestry.
We need to make plans and have a road map to follow as we continue to grow.
Deb Teahan reported that there would be no Vacation Bible School this summer
because of construction. But she plans on working on a summer Sunday school program.
Father Jim
said that there would be four Easter services this year. He also mentioned that he may not
be able to play in the church's annual golf tournament.
Maybe my team will stand a chance this year if the doctor does not release
me, he quipped.
He also thanked Dick Wernick for staking
out the outline of the new building and placing yellow tape around the stakes in
preparation for the groundbreaking ceremony. In addition, he said we should have the
necessary permits to start construction in a couple of weeks.
Dick Gerhart said he had attended a meeting on planned giving and added that
some people can make gifts to the church that are not acceptable. He suggested that a
committee be appointed to review all gifts.
The committee members will be the Father
Jim, Judi McCullough, Senior Warden, Dick
Wernick, Junior Warden, Joe Schifano,
Treasurer, or Russ Housel, Assistant Treasurer and Dick
Gerhart, Finance Commission Chairman.
The annual
ECW Bunco party and Ice Cream Sundae Party will be held on Friday, April 20.

Deanery Confirmation Service will be held at St. Wilfreds on April 25 at 7:00 PM .
