Vestry Committee Meeting

(From March 2001 Nativity newsletter)

† Joe Schifano reported that the Operating Fund was showing some deficits. Raymond Kow wanted to know how it compared with last year. Father Jim replied it was about the same, but a major difference was that January 2000 had five Sundays. The fifth Sunday contributed more to the income figure.

Joe also said the Building Fund report was being updated quarterly. In the past three quarters, we have shown a total of 123 pledges. He suggested that the church should follow up with new members and give them an opportunity to give. He mentioned that 17 members had not given any money yet.

† Deacon Jan announced that there would be Sexual Misconduct Prevention training at St. Wilfred's on March 3. She urged all Vestry members to attend.

She also commented that the Alpha program has started as a huge success. She said 74 attended the first session. Only two who were signed up failed to attend. Father Jim said the crowded conditions for the program proves that we need more room.

† Father Jim read a letter of thanks to the vestry from Father Gerry Bennett for the Christmas gift. Deacon Jan added that she also had written a letter. It was read at the January meeting, but was not noted in the minutes.

† Junior Warden Dick Wernick presented the new Memory Garden brochure, which has gone through nine revisions. He said that 500 copies would be printed in the first edition.

† Father Jim recommended that triads of three vestry members meet monthly to discuss various church tasks. The assigned triads are: Bradshaw, Davidsmeyer and McCullough; Gerhart, Haeffner and Wernick, as well as Hall, Kow and Teahan.

† Vestry members divided into groups to conduct a Bible Study that pertained to their responsibilities. Following the study, Father Jim announced commission appointments. In addition to Senior Warden, Judi McCullough, Pastoral Care, and Junior Warden, Dick Wernick, Commission on Church Property, the Vestry Committee assignments are:

Christian Formation: Deb Teahan
Fellowship and Hospitality: Raymond Kow
Evangelism and Integrative Ministries: Ros Hall
Parish Administration: Gary Bradshaw
Outreach Support Ministries: Anna Haeffner
Stewardship and Finance: Dick Gerhart
Worship: Jo Davidsmeyer

† Father Jim asked for volunteers to read the Stations of the Cross liturgy on Fridays at 5:30 PM during Lent.

† Jabbo Gordon, Joanne Marino and Lois Johnson, whose Vestry terms expired January 31, were named to the Audit Committee and were urged to start the process immediately.

† Vestry members reelected Elly Freyer, Clerk; Joe Schifano, Treasurer, and Russ Housel, Assistant Treasurer.

† Father Jim announced the following schedule of events:

A Planned Giving workshop will be held at St. Wilfred's on March 1 at 7:00 PM

The Hope and a Future groundbreaking was set for March 3. A reception will be held at 3:30 and the ceremony will begin at 4:30. The regular Saturday Holy Communion service will start at 5:00 o'clock.
