Vestry
Committee
Meeting

(From April 2000 Nativity newsletter)

Junior Warden Dick Wernick made a report on the progress in the Memorial Garden and reviewed the landscaping plans, which include a waterfall. There will be an altar and a seating area for about 32, but there is room for expansion. However, there will not be a concrete base because of the estimated $40,000 cost.

Dick also recommended that the vestry not take any action on the church's siding repair now but wait until our building project progresses.

"It (the present siding) should carry us a year, and we should wait until the new siding can be tied into the new church and there can be a better match with the two buildings,'' he explained.

He added that the deterioration to our current building is deep seated, but added that he doesn't believe it will compromise the structure. "Redoing the present building is part of our building campaign,'' he said. "I suggest we wait until the May meeting, when we will know more about the Hope and a Future fund drive, and we will know more about what we can do.''

In other business, vestry members:

Agreed to cancel the Annual Spring Fling this year because of all the capital campaign efforts. The church might have a special picnic or activity during the summer instead.

Donated an additional $250 to YWAM (Youth With A Mission) as part of Nativity's outreach efforts.

Decided to pay a musician $70 a week for 12 weeks for Saturday evening services retroactive to March 1 .

Elected Lois Johnson, Nancy John Langdon and Deb Teahan as delegates to the next Diocesan Convention, which will be in Punta Gorda on Oct. 14. Ros Hall was chosen as an alternate delegate.

Decided to table "Winners Dinners" until next Fall since the program had not started yet. Lois Johnson suggested that we try to start the project earlier this year, like October.

Heard that early estimates indicate the Hope and A Future drive will bring in $950,000.

Learned that new vestments have been ordered, that Nancy John Langdon will investigate our advertising program, that Dick Wernick will repaint the lines for the handicap parking,, that there will be a new Sunday School schedule and that the Ushers and Greeters' schedule is being reorganized.
