Vestry
Committee
Meeting
(From
Feb 2000 Nativity newsletter)
Vestry members agreed to
hire Impact Services to conduct the building fund drive for $27,950.
Bill Price, who works out of Franklin, Tennessee,
had made a presentation to various church members a few days before the meeting and his
cost was below that of two others being considered, including Holliman Associates which
conducted the feasibility study.
In response to a question about the church
conducting its own drive, Bill replied that we would not raise as much and that we didn't
have anyone who was professionally qualified to do it. At the same time, though, he
discouraged hiring an additional secretary and other people, emphasizing that he preferred
to work with volunteers because they have a vested interest in the project.
Bill also said Impact could do an excellent, job
because of its size, its ability to give a more personal touch and its proven record. He
said the campaign would be spread over three years but that, it could be more in
individual cases.
Joe Schifano will handle the accounting for the
fund drive. According to the treasurers report, there is $233,170 in the building
fund already, and the church concluded 1999 with a surplus of about, $17,000 in its
operating budget. ''God blessed us,'' Father Jim said. ''There is no other explanation.''
Louise Halliday will
be chairperson for the photo directory. Several have volunteered to assist and if any
others are interested, please contact Louise.
Liz Stoner has
started a history of the church.
The Memorial Garden Committee has changed its name to
Sola Gloria Dei (Solely for the Glory of God) Committee. Dick Wernick
is the Chairman and other members are Jim Murphy (the elder), Bob Mostertz, Liz
Stoner, Bill Stoner, Bruce Simington and Marguerite Hatfield. The committee
comes under the Junior Warden's Building Commission.
Nicki Coffaro reported that, the church gained
$71 from the recent, Kash 'N Karry project, making a total of $150 for the year.
A sign-up sheet will be posted for people to
volunteer to help Anne Mischler come to church.
The nominating committee reported that, there are
seven candidates for the five open vestry positions. Those nominated for election at the
Annual Meeting include Jo Davidsmeyer, Ros Hall, Nancy John Langdon, Jim Lee, Judy
McCullough, Debbie Teahan and Dick Wernick.
Bruce Simington will look into the church
having more handicapped parking and some additional lighting.
Anna Haeffner
reported there would not be an Alpha program in the church this winter. It will be home
based since only one couple had volunteered to help and that was only for part of the
time. She also said that her mother, Gussie Haeffner, would organize The Winners
Dinners.
Bruce Simington, Nicki Coffaro and Bob Halliday,
all outgoing Vestry members, will serve on the Audit Committee along with one of the
former committee members. Karla Porter, Dick Gerhart, and Dan Benefiel served on
the last, Audit Committee.
Father Jim said Shrove Tuesday would be March
7 and that, volunteers were needed for the soup suppers that would be help during Lent. He
said he would do one and Elly Freyer added that, she would provide some ''Chicken
Soup for the Soul." Ash Wednesday services will be at Noon and at 7:00 PM.
Confirmation will be at Church of the Redeemer on
Wednesday, May 17, beginning at 7:30 PM.
Cursillo meetings are slated
for March 11 and March 18. Father Jim will be the spiritual director at a Cursillo weekend
on March 23-26 and the Rev. Ken Davis will be the supply pastor.
