(From April, 1999 Nativity newsletter) Treasurer Russ Housel has added a "location of funds" line to his monthly report so the Mission Committee and other parishioners can see where our funds are actually located. Also he has broken down the "other income" section for a more detailed picture of where this income comes from. |
Jabbo Gordon noted that Nativity's Articles of Incorporation required that the Secretary/Clerk and the Treasurer should be elected annually. This has never been done, to anyone's knowledge at the meeting, and he recommended the action be taken. Elly Freyer was elected Clerk and Russ Housel was elected Treasurer for an annual term. The term is to run from February to February.
Bob Halliday agreed to chair a By-Laws Committee for Nativity since the church has been operating under a generic set since it became a mission. He said he would obtain copies of by-laws from other churches, and while it is not required for a mission, a set of by-laws would be needed when we become a parish.
Bruce Simington reported that a new sprinkler system has been installed in the Memorial Garden. Originally a budget of $1,500 was approved by the Mission Committee, but Bruce said an additional $900 had been charged for a more expanded system, which stretches from the garden to the front of the property. The committee agreed to pay the additional charge. He said the function of the Building Committee was coming to an end and that it was close to time for the committee to start thinking in terms of a building fund drive.
Joanne Marino announced that she and Sharon Murphy attended a Vacation Bible School workshop and a decision was made to use the Cokesbury Bible School program. Joanne also informed the group that May 23 would be the last day of Sunday School, and that there will be a children's presentation that day, which is celebrated as the Day of Pentecost.
Anna Haeffner told those assembled that Alpha 3 is finishing up and the most recent program had an average of 12 non-team members attending. Tentative plans for starting Alpha 4 in August or September are on the drawing board.
She also reported that two members of our youth group attended the Youth Explosion Sunday in Tampa in February. There also will be a New Beginnings Retreat at DaySpring coming up.Bob Halliday said that he would be heading up a committee to conduct an inventory of the church. This will include using a video to help document everything.
Charles Bohrer has set up an Audit Committee, which includes two members from last year's committee: Karla Porter and Dick Gerhart. Dan Benefiel will replace Al Berry on the committee. As Stewardship and Finance Commissioner, Charles also wants to establish a Finance Committee in the near future. He said he attended a planned giving conference at Church of the Redeemer on March 5-6 with Dick Wernick.
Charles also wants to set a specific policy on check signings. For instance he recommends that we establish definite amounts that can be spent without Mission Committee approval.Lois Johnson announced that Nativity has three new Chalicists: Anna Haeffner, Joanne Marino and Deborah Young. Two new Lectors are Deborah Young and Karla Porter.
Father Jim told the committee that the Open Hands Campaign had leaped 34 percent compared to last year and that the drive had bettered its goal of $162,000, which should adequately fund this year's entire operating budget.
