Search Committee Update

Our Search Committee reports very good progress with the interview process of our search. This Friday, June 25th, one candidate will visit Nativity as a follow-up to our committee’s visit to his parish earlier this month. He will visit with his wife and two of his children to look at Nativity and Sarasota and will meet with the Search Committee and with Nativity staff members. We will keep you informed, as prayerfully all this hard work will, through God's calling, bring a new priest to Nativity.

Worship Team

Nativity's Worship Team recently completed their annual training sessions. Special thanks to our team of worship trainers: Deacon Deb Blackwood with Eucharistic Visitors; Nancy John Langdon with Lectors, Crucifers, and Eucharistic Ministers; and Dick Berg with Ushers. If anyone is interested in being a part of the Worship Team, please contact me. We need at least four more Eucharistic Visitors and five more Eucharistic Ministers. There is also a need for more Lectors, Crucifers, Ushers, and Greeters. If you currently serve at your “home” church during the summer months, please consider serving at Nativity as well. Your experience and service will be appreciated. Children ages ten and up are also encouraged to join the Worship Team. Please pray and see if God is calling you to a ministry of service. Our next training session will be held in January, 2005. — Ros Hall, Worship

Praise Report

(Praise report from Marilyn Davis)
Many of us at Nativity know Helena Stephens and her grandson who has accompanied her regularly to church. His name is Jory Vicens. Jory was recently accepted to a Christian Academy and boarding home for boys with special needs. When they applied, there was one vacancy. He was accepted. Helena and I attended the end of the year awards night, and this six-foot handsome lad walked away with several awards.

Students at Christian Academy are home-schooled, and the school's standards are higher than the requirements for the state of Florida. Although Jory has only been there about six weeks, his progress has been amazing. He loves it and will be staying all summer – an elective choice. Jory would love to get mail from those who know him.

Jory wrote the following poem as an assignment:

What I Want From God
(A Teenager's Prayer)

Dear God,

My dad is gone, my Mom is hear
     Sometimes I want to dissapear
From life, from humanity --
     I want to live peacefully.

What I want from God, is a new life
without pain and anger, away from danger.

Friends have gone, friends have come
What I want from God is a chance,
A chance to say sorry,
sorry for making my moms life a living HELL!!!

Love, Jory Vicens
