Summer Doldrums
This is an exciting time at Church of the Nativity. After such a long
wait, the permits are pulled, the ground is truly broken, not just symbolically, the space
for the building is now apparent, and by the time this is read, we will see some real
progress on our dream. We clergy are always admonishing parishioners to keep up their
attendance in the summer, and not to take a vacation from church. This summer, if you do
miss, you won't be able to keep up on the progress. Good reason, indeed, for not falling
prey to the dread "SUMMER DOLDRUMS."
This is not to suggest that vacations shouldn't be taken. In fact, we
encourage a change from time to time for relaxation and refreshment. But go to
church wherever you find yourself. Don't take a vacation from worship. You may well be
able to pray by yourself, but worship, by its very nature, is corporate. Seek out a
congregation wherever you find yourself and tell them about the wonderful parish we are at
Sarasota-Nativity. Take a few brochures about the church and leave one with the Rector; he
(or she) will appreciate it. We like to know what's gong on in the rest of the Episcopal
Church. Bring back with you things gathered from those churches you visit. We like to see
them. Keeps us in touch with our spiritual family in Christ.
It goes without saying (this means I'm going to say it) that you keep
up your offerings here as well in the summer as you do the rest of the year. The expenses
go on during the summer! Remember the Hope and A Future. The program will run more
smoothly with regular infusions of pledge support. Stop by from time to time during the
week and watch the building: it's an exciting time for all of us. The renovations to the
existing building shouldn't disrupt the worship schedule, so come and rejoice with us.
Yours in Christs Love,
Gerry+
