PRAYER AT NATIVITYPrayer under girds everything we do at Nativity. Our members are encouraged to have personal prayer in their own quiet times. Corporate prayer is built into the Episcopal liturgy. Every Sunday a list of people who have requested prayer, and a list of servicemen who have been brought to our attention, is read as part of the “prayers of the people” in the church service. It is hoped that we will take the list home with the bulletin and pray for these people during the week, even though we may not know the specific need. At the main services there are prayer ministers available during communion to pray individually with those who come forward with a prayer need for themselves or a concern for others. There is a Wednesday morning healing service and Eucharist each week at 10:00 with a time for people to come forward for prayer and anointing for healing. This is open to the public. From 7-8 p.m. on Monday nights there is a prayer and praise service in which we pray for the needs of the community and the nation as well as the church. This is also open to the public. The Nativity chapter of the Daughters of the King upholds the parish by a commitment to taking on long-term prayer needs. More information on this Order is found in another place on this website. Small groups are encouraged to pray together, and there is at this writing one group meeting weekly specifically to pray for the parish. Anyone can join this. And finally, there is an e-mail prayer chain that quickly disseminates prayer requests to a group of people who desire to pray immediately in a crisis. Anyone in the parish can participate in this prayer chain. All pray immediately when the request comes through; some also pray long term as the Lord leads. |
