Daughters of the King

What is Daughters of the King? All women of Church of the Nativity are invited to a meeting on April 17 at 10:00 AM. Carol Broden, Diocesan President, Daughters of the King, will be on hand to give us information about starting a chapter at Nativity.

PURPOSE OF THE ORDER

The object of this Order shall be the extension of Christ's Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism.

WHO WE ARE

The Daughters of the King is an Order founded in 1885 for laywomen who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, or churches in communion with it, or churches who are in the Historic Episcopate. Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and The Rule of Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of Prayer, Service, and Evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

THE MOTTO OF THE ORDER

For His Sake...
I am but one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.
Lord, what will you have me do?

We are a group of dedicated Christian women who are trying to follow a life of Prayer and Service to our neighbors. We are women to whom parishioners can look for love and for help in time of need, loneliness, or strangeness. We seek to walk with God as our guide and try to draw those with whom we come in contact into the Church. We are women who try to spread Christ's  Kingdom here on earth. We can never forget that Prayer is the foundation from which our service grows.

"Prayer without work is empty words,
Service without Prayer is labor lost."

We find the order of the Daughters of the King to be 'safe place' in a busy world where we can be together and support each other in Christ's love.

We invite you to join us.

The Nativity Quilting Sisters Thank You

Thank you to all who visited Nativity's Quilting Sisters show last fall. Your many kind compliments have inspired us to create a "Hope and the Future Quilt" for 2001.

This quilt will consist of a wide variety of sample blocks stitched by all our members and combined into one beautiful, queen-size quilt. The completed quilt will be raffled next fall with the proceeds donated to Nativity for our new building fund.

If you would like to help with this creative project, consider sponsoring a block. By donating $10, you will pay for the material needed for one block and your name will be included on the list of quilt sponsors for the raffle. Contact Linda Seehawer, 377-3159, for the details. Of course, if you would like to help sew this creation, come join the Quilting Sisters any Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Nativity.
