Congratulations to each of these women who give generously of their time and talent to their responsibilities and ministries.

Several people have inquired about the ECW and its role in the church.

The purpose of the ECW in the Diocese of Southwest Florida, as in all dioceses, is to deepen the spiritual life of all church-women in the Diocese and to foster active participation in the programs of the church. We are called to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world and to be leaders in the life and worship of the church.

All women members of Episcopal congregations are members of the ECW. Local organizations are called branches, and we are organized for service, worship, study, fellowship, and prayer. Our branch has a traditional form of organization. Our dues are considered more a donation to our branch to help us support whatever ministry and mission we decide is particularly worthy in a given year.

As Deanery Director, Lois will serve as the ECW communication link between the Diocesan Executive Board and the Branches. Jean White has accepted the role of Deanery Secretary. Our Manasota Deanery consists of 12 churches with 9 of them having strong and active ECW branches. Branches provide opportunities for involvement in four outstanding ministries of our diocesan ECW. For instance, two UTO ingatherings are taken each year to support the incredible work of the United Thank Offering, and in January we all can buy and read from the many books donated to the Church Periodical Club's sale. Nativity's programs and outreach are designed to address social concerns, such as our involvement in Adopt-a-Family, and to foster spiritual development through quiet days and worship services.

Why should you participate? For fellowship with other women, for education and awareness of social action, for your own spiritual growth and nourishment, for renewed focus on mission and ways to participate, for service, and for support in your own ministry. We each have different gifts, values and ministries as women, and in the ECW there is opportunity to be all we can be, together in the Lord. Nativity's ECW leadership is preparing the calendar of activity for the coming year and all women will be receiving a copy by the end of the summer. Mark your calendar with the dates of those events and ministry opportunities that appeal to you and join us in furthering God's kingdom in and outside these walls.

The ECW Prayer:

Almighty God, we pray that You will bless our work in mission and ministry in the world. We give thanks for the gifts of joy and wonder to be found in Your works. Make us so thankful for the power of Your love, given through Your Son, Jesus, that we may pray, labor and give liberally to make known that love throughout the world.

We are women and girls of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, who offer You our ministries at home, in the workplace, community and school. Bless us that our lives may shine forth the joy and wonder we share in your Name, Amen.
