Church Periodical Club:
|
(From November 2003 Nativity newsletter) B's & B's"How great are God's riches! How deep are his wisdom and knowledge!" (Romans 11:33a - Good News) Recently, my friend and I stayed at a Bed & Breaakfast in Seattle, Washington. I find this generally to be a fun experience because all owners are so different and each home often presents in an unusual manner. This home did not fail me! It was FULL of "stuff." There were collections of teddy bears, quilts, old suitcases, dolls' heads, pictures, etc ... and books! here must have been over 3,000 books. They were in every room, on tables, up the walls, on the floor, shelves behind the doors, even on the kitchen stove, so our breakfasts were cold (but with lovely fruits, bagels, coffee, and more). Anyway, all those books reminded me that our upcoming Church Periodical Club Annual Bring A Book - Buy A Book sale is scheduled for the second full week of January of next year. All sorts of books are welcome as long as they are clean, both physically and in content. Last year, as a result of your contributions to the Church Periodical Club, twenty-one students in our diocese received grants of $250.00 toward their book bills and $300.00 was sent to the Good Samaritan Children's School in our companion Diocese of the Dominican Republic. Additionally, monies went to the National Book Fund for administration and mission projects. Lest you think badly of the afore-mentioned BB, it was actually quite charming. If you're going to Seattle, I'll gladly recommend it to you. But, before you leave (for anywhere) begin to sort through those books so you don't wind up with a lot of "things" in yourhome. Thinking about the "things - stuff" (junk) we all collect, Scripture says: "wealth is not permanent. Not even nations last forever." (Proverbs 27:24 (Good News) Liz Stoner Other CPC articles: |
