Church Periodical Club:

(From March 2001 Nativity newsletter) Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth. As you read "Tidings" throughout the year, CPC articles use words to encourage you to participate in the work of CPC. Your actions, your steadfast saving of pennies and your filling the red basket with them, your collection, delivery and purchase of books and your giving on CPC Sunday far surpass these words and demonstrate your love for the truth, your compassion for people in need and your generosity. During the past few weeks, you placed $276.91 in book sale baskets; on CPC Sunday, you put $253.00 in the collection plate. That adds up to $529.91 to be used for NBF grants. As a result, some who are as close as our own parish and others as distant as Timbuktu who are experiencing financial difficulties will be blessed. Sometimes, when people ask me about CPC, I describe it as a literacy program for individuals and groups who lack funds for books, periodicals, tapes and the like. While that is so - grants are made to foster literacy and enrichment of knowledge - a more accurate description of the mission of CPC is to call it a vehicle of God's love, to make God's presence and provision a reality and to call forth faith and praise. A prayer on CPC bookmarks says it clearly and simply: Bless, O Lord, the Church Periodical Club, that it may be an instrument for the spread of your Word throughout the world... Bookmarks can be found in the narthex. Pick one up and put it on your refrigerator, a mirror or your dashboard and it will be convenient for you to support the work of CPC in words as well as action. Many thanks for continuing your faithful actions, for making the truth of God's Word known. June Hanley Other CPC articles:
