(From September
2002 Nativity Tidings)
Religious Music Week
Did you know that the last full week of September is Religious Music Week? Dont
feel bad if you did not know this it was only founded in 1995 and received more
attention in 1998 when the founders mailed information to a number of congregations in the
U.S.
In some ways, every week at Nativity is Religious Music Week. The congregation loves to
sing and vigorously supports the music program. So the big THANK YOU goes to the members
of Nativity! Through song, we worship, give thanks, ask for blessings, express joy. Music
not only soothes the soul, but renews us. The use of the word "renewal" is in
the broad sense recognizing that all vibrant, functioning churches experience renewal.
Bishop Michael Marshall, indeed, declared that music is always present when renewal is
taking place and mentioned, in particular, Paul and Silas singing in prison (Acts 16:25)
prior to their chains falling off!
Nice to see a dedication to church music among all the other causes that are
celebrated. We will recognize the theme in various ways, especially thanking those who
participate in the music program, some of whom have years of service doing so. And we will
cap the end of Religious Music Week with two artists who will present a concert on
September 29th.
It will be a wonderful music-filled day in Gods House.
