Qualifications for Choir Members
The year 2000 marks 250 years after the death of J. S. Bach and it is
absolutely extraordinary to think that we still play and sing his music as if it were only
recently popularized. In an article by Uwe Siemon-Netto (The Gospel According to J. S.
Bach), he relates that when Bach was selected to be the composer-in-residence and organist
for the Thomaskirche in Leipzig (his primary workplace), he was SECOND choice. They had
actually wanted Georg Philipp Telemann, who had turned them down, so they were
"making do" with "the mediocre." And the rest, as we say, is history.
Meanwhile back at Nativity regular choir rehearsals are now in progress having
started the last week in August. Hand chimes also are now meeting. Please consult the
weekly bulletin for the day and time and come quickly to sign on if you are not already a
member.
