These appointments came at a special meeting with Impac
Services on January 31.
In bringing the people up-to-date, Father Jim recalled when he was
interviewed as the prospective Vicar, the search committee asked him, 'Where would you
like to see us go? A new building was one of the answers. The Mission Committee
picked an architect from several candidates' and then selected a particular plan from
several. that were submitted. Next, a feasibility study was held and 92 percent of those
interviewed and polled were in favor of a capital campaign to build a new sanctuary. By
then, the church had obtained parish status and the Vestry hired Impac Services to serve
as the capital campaign consultant.
Bill Price, a former Baptist pastor, represented
Impac Services along with Tom East, a Methodist minister, at the January 31 meeting that
attracted about 50 people. Bill gave a video presentation, pointing out key steps and
announced that Palm Sunday would be the major event date. Celebration Sunday is scheduled
to be held on May 7.
He said the groups philosophy was to inform, to involve by having
at least 50 percent of the congregation named to a committee, to pray and to give
proportionately. "Your challenge is to pray, to be positive, to gossip by spreading
the good word and by saying yes to making a contribution," Bill said. "There are
only two groups of people. . .the people who say yes and those who are still eligible to
say yes.''
Nicki Coffaro asked about asking people outside the church to
contribute, but Bill said that was usually a dead end but that there were exceptions,
especially if there is some sort of attachment. with the church.
Ed Phillips asked if the church would start building at the end of
three years. Father Jim said there were other hurdles besides money. He mentioned Diocesan
approval and the obtaining of the proper permits from Sarasota County.
